The project got started from the paintings I had been doing about food and sharing meals together; I was looking for a logical way to make that theme “portable” in the same way the speaker is portable. As I frequently picnic, the theme got established at an actual picnic.
My work is often about capturing the scene of moments spend together, so it felt very fitting to capture one of those moments on one of the items I’d often bring to a picnic: music.
To plan out this project I took detailed photo’s of the speaker so I could use my ipad to exactly plan out the plan for the color and illustrations. Eventually I painted the illustrations by hand onto the speaker itself.
