IllustrationMy dear friends Misha & Masha are talented brewers & fermenters. I’ve helped them with their visual communication here & there over the years. With this project I’m trying to capture their products while keeping the whimsy of a semi proffesional project in tact. A flexible brand & label system, that can serve them for a long time and is flexible enough to distinguish while being economical at the same time.

PROJECT INSIGHTS
As a microbrewrey/fermenteray there’s a lot of limited edition products and experiments. We want to honor all of the products with beautiful branding without breaking the bank or spending too much time. 

The goal is to be as flexible as posisble, while differenciating between different products in a way that stands out.

LOGO DESIGN
For the logo the goal was to combine the concept of fermentation with the feeling of handmade.

To start with the concept of handmade, I handwrote the letters over and over until I found a version I vibed with. Something that feels home in Amsterdam, a small wink to the heritage of the brand and the Amsterdamse Krul Letter.

Then it was time to ferment the handwriting. Fermentation is about time and the breakdown of a substance by bacteria, yeast or other microorganisms. So I emulated that concept by breaking the logo by smoothing the corners until its unreadable. I brought it back to a readable version which became the logo in the end. I love it!

Hi! I’m Frederique,  I’m an independent artist living and working in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
I’ve been a freelance digital illustrator and designer for 8 years, and added painting as a focus in 2020.
