A few years ago we did the first iteration of this project. For me this was the first time painting on dinnerware, so that came with a few challenges. Painting with natural materials means you paint the designs with a brownish seethrough material, that only turns blue in the kiln. This year we added a few new types of tableware, my favourite being vases, pitchers and pastabowls.
This project is inspired by hosting and sharing good food.
Using natural materials I painted “serving suggestions” on tableware. Vegetables and fruits are often featured in my paintings, so it feels even more natural to apply them to their natural habitat, in an iconic blue shade.
Most of the designs I come up with on the spot, inspired by the piece itself.
